Glass Etching With Cricut

I was killing time in a dollar store last week when I found some gorgeous black tinted tall glasses. I put 4 of them in my cart along with about $40 worth of other stuff. I knew just what I wanted to do with them and today I finally found a little time to work with them!

A bit of back story here:

My 11 year son has been bugging, I mean seriously driving me crazy, to watch the movie IT. I told him under no circumstances was he allowed to watch it but that I would find him a different show that would be a little more age appropriate but was still “scary”. I had watched a few episodes of Supernatural a couple years ago but for some reason I never really got into it. I decided to give it another try but this time I would watch it with someone. That someone is my son. (It is rated PG according to Netflix so judge me if you will) Anyways he loves the show and we have been binge watching it all summer. We are currently half way through season 8. He loves it so much that he is going to dress up as Dean for Halloween. I will post more on that closer to Halloween as he wants us to make a hunting kit and everything!

Back to the present:

As I said above my son loves Supernatural. I thought that these black tinted glasses would make great themed glasses for him. I had purchased the svgs previously to make t-shirts (we still have to do that!) I cut the svgs out of a stencil vinyl with my Cricut Explore Air 2 and weeded out the parts that I wanted etched into the glass, placed the stencil on the glasses and made sure that it was firmly attached especially around the inner edges where I wanted the etch to be crisp.

I put a generous amount of Rustoleom Tub & Tile etching cream. I left it on for about 15 minutes. I scrapped off as much etching cream as I could without moving the stencil then rinsed the rest off in my stainless steel kitchen sink.

After all of the rinsing I removed the stencil and rinsed again. I love the finished look! I was only able to make 3 this afternoon because I didn’t realize that I had broken the 4th glass on the way home from the store. I will go back tomorrow to get a few more of these black tinted glasses!

Here is the set of 3. If you are a fan of the show you will know the significance of these symbols.

I am most excited with how this one turned out! I had planned on giving these to him for Christmas but I was so excited with how they turned out that I decided to give them to him today! I will work on a different theme for his older brother.

Supplies needed

  • Cricut Explore to cut stencil (or prepurchased adhesive stencil)
  • Stencil vinyl
  • Etching cream (I used Tub & Tile by Rustoleom)
  • Sponge paint brush
  • glass

I’m Still Here

Really, I am. I wish I had an excuse to justify my absence but in reality, I don’t. It’s not like I am busier than most Moms but apparently lazier since I haven’t blogged in forever! 😂 My boys are fully immersed in their ball hockey playoffs. We are not currently playing during the week but weekends are crazy!

Do you see that little 21? That is my 13 year old! He maybe small but he is easily the fastest kid on the team! Did I mention that he is tenacious? He easily stands up to kids twice his size and if he doesn’t bounce off of them he beats them! That guy in the middle, heading for the net? Yeah, he’s mine too! This is his second season playing! He loves it! He will spend hours practicing on the deck in the backyard!

During the weekends I am also trying to squeeze in the last few orders that I have to complete and make a few Christmas gifts and some Christmas decor for ourselves. Somewhere in my mind it seemed like a great idea to try to do this all at once. Everybody on my side of the family gets novelty socks. I am bringing out my inner Oprah at Christmastime, ” you get socks”, “you get socks”, “everybody gets socks”! I also personalized stockings for all the humans in my house, the dogs and cats but I still need to make a rabbit stocking.

It’s the second weekend of December and we have yet to put up lights or get a tree! This is our must do weekend! I made a few ornaments for our, yet to exist, tree and last but not least I am finishing up some Christmas Eve boxes for my boys. I have all the contents but still want to label them and fill them with goodies! I will post those next week!

Craft Sale

Winter Is…..Here

Well, it should come as no surprise that winter is here. I mean it is not like it hasn’t happened before. I really don’t mind the snow but I am not a fan of the cold. I am not even joking when I say that on October 31 it was +6C. and rainy. November 1 it was the start of winter. This weekend after a heavy snowfall warning we are looking at high temperatures of -8C.

I know that the worst is yet to come but winter could not have waited until after this weekend? I had my craft sale on Saturday. It was snowy and cold. I hoped that the colder weather would not put people off of Christmas buying spirit. It didn’t!!

My first ever craft sale was successful. I sold lots of small items like jewellery, wine glasses, wine bags and tags. It seems people really like their wine!

This craft sale was at a rather small venue but it seems to be popular. It took me three tries to get accepted but now that Scrapatini was accepted I get an invite back each year so that makes me crazy happy. The table costs are low here and I made my table cost back and more in my first sale!

I had great support from friends and neighbours that came to see me. I was also able to take orders and made quite a few contacts with people look for personalized items.Anyways I now have time to work on my project for my feature in a couple of weeks.

You who! I am over here! I know it has been a while but I have been busy. My family went on vacation for 10 days to beautiful Maui. During that time we relaxed, checked out the sights and ate plentifully. I love traveling but it is always nice to be home. The one thing that I did miss other then our pets was crafting. It has been a long time since I have gone that long without working on some sort of project.

I am participating in a neighbourhood craft sale in a couple of weeks so I had been ramping up production during the summer. I started making jewellery which has been very successful. I worked on a few different types of signs. I got really good at using my Cricut Easy Press. I made Christmas cards and ornaments which was really hard to do when the weather was nice!

Shop Cricut Easy Press here!

When my craft sale is over I hope to get back to some more scrapbooking and card making. If you want to see more check out my Facebook page. Scrapatini on Facebook
