Lazy Days & Summer Rays -Stick it Down

I have been asked to guest design for the Stick it Down Team this month.

I know summer is winding down for most of us but there are a few days left to enjoy. I made this card as an ode to summer!

This is the design sketch that I was given to work with. The first thing that I noticed is the eye catching pieces that are positioned in a triangular position. This is a quite popular design in card making and scrapbooking. It has a way of drawing the eye.

Here is my interpretation of the above sketch. I hope you enjoy it and also that you enjoy these last few precious days of summer.

Supplies used in the creation of this card are:

Doodle Bug Design– Sweet Summer Collection paper, cardstock, doodle-pops 3D sticker, Icon stickers (beach ball & ice cream)

Pinkfresh Studio– emphemera (last days & summer rays), enamel dots

These were all products that I received in my July SCT Sampler.

Dollar Store Crafts

Just a quick post today to show you what I made with the rest of the stuff I bought at the dollar store the other day. (Same shopping trip,as the black tinted glasses that I etched in previous post! 😉)

I while back I bought 3 rolls of burlap from the dollar store for $3 per roll. I have hung onto this all summer but I did see that these rolls are still available at my local dollar store. I hope this is something that they stock regularly because it is a great deal and I want to make more burlap crafts!

I make this autumn wreath for about $12 in supplies and it took a little less than 1 hour to complete! ALL of the supplies came from Dollar Tree except for the burlap that was Dollarama.

In the craft section I found the wire wreath base in square and round shapes. I bought both but only used the round one for this project. The patterned wire ribbon, mesh, pumpkin 3 pack, leaves in a pack of 2, scarecrows in a pack of 2, metal word 3 pack (saved 2 for future projects) and 2 pack of bows. Each package or item was $1.25!

I loved making this project! I am going to have to try this dollar store crafting again!

Lessons Learned The Hard Way!

This is NOT craft related but it is life related so here goes.

My son’s ball hockey team stunk this season! Like seriously stunk! It was so hard to see them loose game after game. We were 1-11 at the end of the season which put us in last place.

It got to the point that none of the team even wanted to play anymore but most of them stuck through it. It really stinks getting blown out week after week and watching your kid be so hard on themselves. In our league the tournament structure was changed to have an A & B side winner for the first time that I had ever seen. Knowing that we had no hope in winning anything I still went through my usual drill of making playoff shirts to cheer on my player.

We played our first game. And guess what? We won! You would have thought that we had won the lottery that night everyone was crying and the kids dog piled in the middle of the rink. If they didn’t win another game the rest of the tournament I think they would have still been so happy!

We played again the next morning and we won again! WTF?

We did lose our 3rd game by 1 point but it was still enough to get us into the B side gold medal game!

We won gold! It was amazing!

My son is so proud of that medal. He slept with it that night and proudly wore it to school the next morning. He still occasionally walks around with it on!

It was hard earned.

The best part of this story is the life lessons that came with it. He learned that working hard doesn’t always mean success but you can’t succeed if you don’t. He learned not to give up even when he felt like it. He learned to take one for the team (his body was covered in bruises from blocking shots) He learned that he sometimes you don’t always get your way. ( he likes to play forward and is pretty good at it but coach tried to break the slump and shake things up a bit and put him defence and he is amazing at that!) Preserverance, drive and determination! He also learned to be a sweet, caring friend, consoling other team members. It is after all a team effort! These are all lessons that he never would have learned if we had a winning season!
