I’m Still Here!

I realized the other day that it had been almost 2 years since I made a blog post! As we all know THINGS HAVE CHANGED. In the two years since my last post I went back to college and have been acing it. I quit my job, started a new one, quit that one and then started another which I am much more suited. I currently teach pre-Kindergarten and I am still going to school to upgrade my qualifications.

Lucky to be a Teacher

I picked up hobbies here and there. I still scrapbook and use my Cricut and post at Scrapatini but not nearly enough. I mostly just make jewelry for special occasions now and make the occasional pieces to sell at Feather & Fox Finery.

Last summer when I was at home because of Covid lay-offs I really got back into using my Simply Earth essential oils and making natural products. I collected dandelion heads, dried them and infused them in oil. The infused oil I made into a dandelion salve.

I buy my essential oils at Simply Earth.

You can buy subscription boxes, single oils, blends, supplies and accessories. I like the customer service, transparency and I love that 13% of profits go to end human trafficking.

My promo code is good for $10 off each of first 5 boxes JENNIFERIRVINEFREE

Today I picked spruce tips and covered in oil to make a spruce infused concoction that I hope to turn into a salve in a few weeks. I also picked some lemon balm herb from the garden to infuse. I will let you know in a few weeks how that goes.

Anyways just a quick update to say that I am still here and I hope to get back to blogging more often!

Shrinky Dink Earrings!

My boys and I are really into pop culture! I think that this shared love of pop culture puts me in the parenting win column but the I realized that I have at least one fail as a parent! This was realized tonight when my youngest asked me what I was making. My boys often see me creating projects for various design teams, gifts or for personal use but I guess I have never made anything with Shinky Dinks in front of them! I combined my love of pop culture, making jewelry and colouring to make Shrinky Dink earrings!!

I started by stamping my chosen Kindred Stamps onto Shrinky Dink film with my Momento ink. I let it dry for a few minutes and then coloured my images with Spectrum Noir alcohol markers. Once my colouring was dry I cut out the stamped image and left a bit of space at the top so that I could punch a hole into the plastic. That would be where I attach the earring hook or jump ring if used. I then used my heat gun to shrink.

The weird thing with Shrinky Dinks is that they always look bad before they look good! The above picture is during the shrinking process. Notice it looks twisted and not very nice. After heating a little longer you get the finished product.

Here is a picture of the Shrinky Dinks before and after the shrinking process.

You will notice that after shrinking the colours look a bit more concentrated so keep that in mind when choosing your colours.

This particular stamp shrinks to a nice size to be used as earrings or a necklace pendant.

Here are the completed earrings! I love how this turned out and now I have a sweet pair of earrings to wear in October. 😊
